In 1931, the Jefferson Davis Chapter of the United
Daughters of the Confederacy placed a marker at a burial plot for 11
Confederate veterans buried at Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, California. For over 70 years
since, the graves have remained unmarked and the stone monument has been
weathered by the elements.
The camp's Heritage Officer Kevin Collins is working to place government
issued headstones that will identify each man as a Confederate Soldier.
Although the headstones are free, the cemetery charges $200 to lay
foundations. The camp's goal is to raise enough money each year to
place one headstone. The Jefferson Davis Chapter has raised money to
either resurface the stone monument so that it appears new or to place a
bronze marker atop it. Another UDC member has pledged to sculpt a
statue of a drummer boy to be placed on the site.
