Who they are and where they lay

WHAT IS THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS?

In 1896, the Sons of Confederate Veterans ("SCV") was founded by the veterans and progeny of veterans who fought in the War Between the States. The Sons of Confederate Veterans was established as, and remains, an independent organization that supports the protection and preservation of Confederate heritage. Current members are descendants of the original defenders of Confederate heritage and are not affiliated with any other organization other than the Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

California qualified to become a Division with the chartering of its fifth camp in 1994. The Division now has twelve active, growing camps. The California Division has ongoing programs at the state and local levels which offer members a wide range of activities. Preservation work, marking Confederate soldiers' graves, historical reenactments, scholarly publications, and regular meetings to discuss the military and political history of the War between the States, are only a few of the activities sponsored by the local units, called camps.

The SCV rejects any person or group whose actions tarnish or bring dishonor upon the Confederate soldier or his reason for fighting. This particularly applies to those groups and persons using the Confederate battle flag as a symbol for their own dishonorable purposes.
